Join us for an open dialogue about Masculine of Center (MoC) lesbians and how gender impacts our experience, wellbeing, and relationships. There will first be a screening of the new documentary "WoMan," followed by a conversation with film creator Sharron Fincher, producer Kate Opalewski, and participant and hip-hop emcee Miz Korona. The panelists will discuss the documentary and engage the audience in a dialogue about the gender binary and the challenges it creates.

The documentary was shown for the first time at the Queering Racial Justice Conference in Detroit, which was followed by an in depth discussion about all topics mentioned above. The audience was very diverse and a vast majority were able to relate to the subject matter even though the participants in the documentary were MoC lesbians. We were very intentional about creating a space that was safe, brave and inclusive. The audience was able to share their experiences and also offer support to those who did not necessarily identify in the same manner.

The goal was to encourage conversations with people that would include multiple generations, identities and backgrounds. That goal was achieved and it was determined that without supporting each other despite our differences we will not have strength as a community. We would like to continue showing WoMan in different arenas so that our community can listen to one another, offer support and realize that we are more alike than we are different.

This is event is co-sponsored by the School of Social Work Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and TBLG Matters, the Institute for Research on Women & Gender (IRWG), and the Initiative on Gender Based Violence and Sexual Harassment at IRWG, and the Queer Advocacy Coalition (QAC).

Refreshments will be served. RSVP.
